National Youth Day, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, “Be proud of your spiritual and cultural heritage, but don’t miss out on science.”
The National Youth Day program, held on Sunday in Lucknow, marked the 163rd birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. CM Yogi Adityanath attended the event and addressed the youth.
During his speech, the CM recalled Swami Vivekananda’s words: “The bigger the challenge, the more beautiful the victory.” He emphasized that these words continue to inspire today’s youth. He also encouraged the youth to be proud of their cultural and spiritual roots but not to ignore modern knowledge and science.
National Youth Day is celebrated in India on January 12 each year to honor the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, one of the country’s most revered spiritual leaders and philosophers. The day aims to recognize the contribution of youth in nation-building and inspire them to follow Vivekananda’s teachings of self-realization, strength, and service to society.
The first National Youth Day was celebrated in 1985, when the Indian government declared it as a way to recognize Swami Vivekananda’s vision for youth empowerment. His speeches, especially the one delivered at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago in 1893, continue to inspire young people across the world.
On this day, various events, discussions, and programs are held, often in educational institutions, to encourage youth to pursue knowledge, personal growth, and contribute positively to society. Swami Vivekananda’s thoughts on education, social service, and youth development remain highly relevant in contemporary times.
