On Monday, the Jammu and Kashmir Police registered a case against social media influencer Orhan Awatramani, also known as Orry, and seven others for allegedly consuming alcohol in Katra town. Katra is the base camp for pilgrims visiting the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in the Trikuta Hills. The FIR was filed at the Katra police station under section 223 of the BNS Act, which deals with disobedience of orders given by a public servant.
The local administration has banned the sale and consumption of liquor and non-vegetarian food in Katra due to its close proximity to the religious shrine. According to the police, the accused consumed alcohol inside a hotel on Saturday, even after being told that drinking was not allowed there.
Reasi SSP Paramvir Singh ordered strict action to be taken against those involved, aiming to set an example and make it clear that alcohol and drugs would not be tolerated at religious sites. A police team has been formed to track down the suspects. (Also read: Aamir Ali’s Holi Surprise: Is He Dating This Mystery Girl?)
The incident came to light after photos of the accused drinking went viral on social media, causing anger in the town. However, by the time police took action, the accused had already left the hotel and the town.
Apart from Orry, the other individuals named in the case are Darshan Singh, Parth Raina, Ritick Singh, Rakshita Bhogal, Shagun Kohli, Rashi Dutta, and Russian national Anastasila Arzamaskina.
Jammu and Kashmir Police filed the FIR for violating the District Magistrate’s orders and potentially hurting religious sentiments. The police acted swiftly after receiving a complaint on March 15 about alcohol consumption in a hotel. An FIR was filed, and all eight individuals were booked to set a strong example of zero tolerance for such actions at religious places.
SSP Paramvir Singh emphasized that there would be no tolerance for those who disrespect the laws and the religious sentiments of people. He added that anyone indulging in such activities would be dealt with severely. The police team, under the supervision of SP Katra, DYSP Katra, and SHO Katra, is working to identify and punish those responsible for this violation.
