Iron Man’s Devastating Death in Avengers: Endgame

Iron Man’s death in Avengers: Endgame left the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) audience devastated and heartbroken. Robert Downey Jr., who first appeared as Tony Stark in 2008, set the stage for the entire MCU and its expansive cast of characters. Tony Stark quickly became one of the most beloved characters in a team of superheroes, thanks to his charm and vanity. His death not only shook MCU fans but also Marvel Comics readers, who knew it was always a real possibility. The immense love and admiration that Robert Downey Jr. received for his portrayal of Iron Man made fans ecstatic when they heard he would return to the MCU — but this time as the iconic Doctor Doom.
Robert Downey Jr. Prepares for Doctor Doom Role
Recently, Robert Downey Jr. shared an exciting Instagram post revealing his preparations for playing the legendary character of Doctor Doom. In the photo, Robert can be seen in a dry-fit workout suit, flexing his left bicep while holding Jeremy Renner’s new memoir, My Next Breath. The caption read:
“Reading Renner’s book and feeling stronger already… what a journey to wisdom… very instructive… a must read!”
Jeremy Renner’s Near-Death Experience
Jeremy Renner wrote his memoir after a near-death experience last year, where he nearly lost his life while attempting to save his nephew. Unaware of Robert’s comeback to the MCU, Renner had portrayed Hawkeye, a crucial member of the superhero team in the Avengers films. Tony Stark and Hawkeye shared a fun relationship, marked by witty banter and humorous Lord of the Rings references. The news of Robert’s return has added even more excitement for fans who loved the duo’s dynamic on-screen. (Also read: Shocking Crime Drama Adolescence Will Leave You on the Edge of Your Seat)
To further thrill fans, Robert also uploaded a behind-the-scenes photo from the sets of his forthcoming movie Avengers: Doomsday. He is portrayed in the painting as Victor von Doom, sometimes known as Doctor Doom, but without the complete power armor. Under the description “Reading Renner’s book and feeling stronger already… what a road to wisdom,” he is seated reading her book. Extremely helpful; really necessary to read! @jheremyrenner.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and Robert Downey Jr. formally stated at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 that Robert will be playing Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday. This news generated great enthusiasm since it signals Robert’s change from being a hero to assuming the position of one of Marvel’s most nuanced antagonists. Directing Robert in Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame, the Russo Brothers will also oversee Avengers: Doom and its follow-up, Avengers: Secrets Wars.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit May 1, 2026.
Doctor Doom’s Robert Downey Jr.
Movies have tried this character previously; actor Julian McMahon plays the villain in the 2005 Fantastic Four picture. His representation of Latveria’s leader, though, was not popular. Though the character’s expectations might not be extremely high, the same cannot be said of the film. Particularly after Endgame, Marvel has been having difficulties trying to replicate the success of its Phase 4 movies. Though several popular online series and movies like Thunderbolts, the company has battled to meet the caliber set by its past productions.
Particularly with Robert Downey Jr. returning to the big screen as a Marvel superhero, all eyes will be on Avengers: Doomsday when it comes in 2026, with a star-studded ensemble and much expectation.
