Bengaluru is having trouble with traffic and floods because of the heavy rains
Heavy rains in Bengaluru on Sunday night flooded many areas badly, making it very hard for people to get to work on Monday morning. Many IT parks and businesses are found in North and East Bengaluru, among other areas of the city that flooded. Big crossroads resembled flowing streams rather than roadways. Huge traffic congestion and problems for traffic cops handling the matter followed from this.

Many important roads were blocked or moving very slowly. The Bengaluru Traffic Police issued several advisories asking people to drive carefully and avoid waterlogged routes. Some of the worst-affected places mentioned in the advisory include:
- New BEL Road near Ayyappa Temple
- Nagawara Bus Stop towards Sarayipalya
- Allasandra to Yelahanka Circle
One of the worst-hit areas was Panathur Road underbridge (RUB), which often gets flooded during rains. On Monday morning, it was again underwater. The police gave a special advisory for this area:
“Water logging at Balagere T Cross near Panathur RUB. Please take alternate routes. Drive safely and keep a safe distance. For help, dial 112.”
The Outer Ring Road, which already has heavy traffic, also faced serious waterlogging. The police highlighted these areas:
- Silk Board to Agara Signal
- Kensington Road towards Gurudwara
- Silk Board to Bellandur
- Lowry Railway Underpass to Mahadevapura
According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), parts of Bengaluru got record-breaking rainfall for May. Bengaluru Urban recorded 132 mm of rain, and Somasettihalli in Bengaluru North saw 119 mm. Meteorologists said that such high rainfall in May is very rare and shows how unpredictable the weather is becoming. Many people posted videos and photos on social media showing flooded roads and vehicles stuck in water. This again raised questions about how well the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is prepared for the rains.
Even though authorities keep promising better monsoon preparations, flood-prone areas are still not fixed. Monday’s flooding shows that the city needs better drainage systems and stronger coordination between weather departments and civic agencies.
