Bipasha Basu Opens Up About Her Bold Role in Jism

Actress Bipasha Basu recently reflected on one of the most bold and important roles of her career — the 2003 film Jism. In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, she shared how taking up the role was a tough decision, as many people around her, including her manager, were against it.
Everyone Was Against Her Choice
“Jism came at a time when I was at the peak of my career,” Bipasha said. “Everyone told me not to do an adult-content film. They said I was already known as a typical Hindi film heroine, and doing such a bold role might affect my image. But I loved the story and decided to go ahead with it. My manager even thought I had gone crazy,” she recalled.
Success of the Film
The film, which also starred John Abraham, had a sensuous and bold storyline. Despite the risks, Jism turned out to be a big critical and commercial success. It changed how people saw Bipasha in the film industry — from a conventional actress to a bold risk-taker who was not afraid to challenge stereotypes.
A Style and Image Revolution
Bipasha believes that Jism didn’t just change her own career, but also started a new trend among women. “After the film, many women started tonging their hair and using bronze makeup. People stopped thinking that a woman couldn’t play a negative or bold role. For me, it was a path-breaking film,” she said.

About the Film and Its Impact
Jism was directed by Amit Saxena and produced by Pooja Bhatt and Mahesh Bhatt. The movie introduced a new way of showing sensuality and strong female characters in Bollywood. Bipasha’s role was bold and layered — something few actresses were willing to do at that time. Her performance received wide praise, and the film is still remembered for its bold story, beautiful music, and stylish visuals. It also inspired other actresses to take on more challenging and unconventional roles.
Her Life Now and Future Plans
Currently, Bipasha is focusing on different things in life, including enjoying motherhood. She has not yet announced any new projects or her comeback to acting, but fans are waiting to see her back on screen.
