Chhaava Box Office Collection Day 1: The film, which stars Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna, Akshaye Khanna, and Divya Dutta, has had a fantastic opening. Despite receiving mixed reviews, Vicky Kaushal’s period drama Chhaava has made an impressive start at the box office. The film not only broke records but also earned ₹31 crore on its first day, marking the biggest opening of 2025 and surpassing Gully Boy’s record for the highest Valentine’s Day collection by an Indian film.
According to trade tracker Sacnilk, the film performed well across all languages, with a ₹31 crore (nett) collection on its opening day. The occupancy rate for Chhaava in Hindi was 35.17% on day one. This is the best opening of Vicky Kaushal’s career and the highest for any Indian film in 2025.
With this, Chhaava has surpassed Vicky’s previous best of ₹8.20 crore from Uri: The Surgical Strike and also outperformed Akshay Kumar’s Sky Force, which earned ₹15.30 crore last month. Additionally, it has broken the record held by Gully Boy for the highest collection on Valentine’s Day, which stood at ₹19.40 crore in 2019.
Chhaava is directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films. It’s a historical action film based on the life of the Maratha king Sambhaji, played by Vicky Kaushal. The cast also includes Rashmika Mandanna as Maharani Yesubai, Akshaye Khanna as Aurangzeb, Ashutosh Rana as Sarsenapati Hambirao Mohite, and Divya Dutta as Soyarabai. The film is based on the Marathi novel Chhava by Shivaji Sawant. The music is composed by A. R. Rahman, with lyrics by Irshad Kamil.
A review from Hindustan Times mentioned that Chhaava had the potential to be a powerful tribute to Sambhaji’s bravery and sacrifice. However, the film’s poor editing and the over-the-top superhero portrayal of the Maratha ruler were drawbacks. The review noted that the film is most engaging when it shows the human side of Sambhaji.
