Elon Musk vs Donald Trump
US President Donald Trump is planning to get rid of the red Tesla he bought in March after his friendship with Elon Musk ended. According to a Fox News report, Trump may either sell or give away the red Tesla, which is still parked at the White House.
In March, President had bought the Tesla from Elon Musk while he was leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). He said he paid the full amount of $80,000 and didn’t take any discount. “I don’t want a discount,” Trump had said at the time. “Musk offered me a discount, but if I accepted it, people would say I took special benefits.”
Trump sat inside the red Model X and called it “beautiful.” He pointed to the vehicle and said it was his favorite. Later, Musk also showed him a Cybertruck and said it is bulletproof.
President bought the Tesla during a photo-op at the White House to support Musk’s business, which was facing criticism then. He told reporters, “When I saw what was going on, I decided to buy a Tesla. Musk, who was also the DOGE head, had four beautiful cars there, and I chose one in front of the press. It was a very public moment. These cars are beautiful and perform very well.”
At that time, Tesla’s stock was falling fast because of Musk’s growing political involvement and his plans to reduce the size of the federal government. Trump’s public support for Tesla came as a boost when the company really needed it.
However, the relationship between President and Musk soon turned sour, mainly because of Trump’s ‘big beautiful bill’ that aimed to cut taxes. Things escalated, and both of them started attacking each other openly on social media.
Musk claimed that President would not have won the elections without his support. In response, Trump said he was “very disappointed” in Musk.
Tesla’s shares went up by 4.5% on Friday morning, but on Thursday, the stock had dropped by 14% — losing around $150 billion in value, which was the biggest single-day loss in the company’s history.
