After Operation Sindoor, India and Pakistan Agree to Ceasefire and Talks

Three Days of Cross-Border Firing Ends
Following three days of cross-border firing triggered by Operation Sindoor, India and Pakistan have now agreed to a ceasefire and to begin discussions on several important issues. The talks will be held at a neutral location, both sides confirmed.
Trump Announces Ceasefire Mediation
US President Donald Trump claimed credit for mediating the agreement. On Saturday, he posted on Truth Social:
“I am happy to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire after a long night of talks mediated by the United States. Bravo to both nations for their excellent knowledge and use of common sense.”
Trump’s statement came despite earlier remarks by US Vice President JD Vance, who had said that the conflict was “none of our business.” Vance later backed Trump’s message on social media.

India Says Ceasefire Was Direct Agreement
However, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri clarified that the ceasefire was arranged directly between India and Pakistan, without any outside help. He stated that Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) had called his Indian counterpart on Saturday afternoon.
According to Misri, both sides agreed to halt all military action on land, air, and sea from 5 p.m. onward. He also added that the next round of India-Pakistan talks will take place on May 12.
Pakistan Confirms Immediate Truce
Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed the ceasefire on social media.
“Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect. Pakistan has always aimed for peace and security in the region, while protecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he wrote.
US Officials Spoke With Indian and Pakistani Leaders
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance reportedly held calls with Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif over the past 48 hours. They also spoke with:
- Indian NSA Ajit Doval
- Pakistani NSA Asim Malik
- Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir
- India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar
Rubio tweeted:
“India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate truce and to start discussions on a variety of topics at a neutral venue. We respect Prime Ministers Sharif and Modi’s leadership in choosing peace.”
